There are a number of types of blocked drains that can occur around your property. Here are a few explained with tips on how to reduce the chance of them happening!
The best way to avoid a blocked drain is preventative maintenance & measures.
The most common types of blocked drains are:
Blocked toilet drains
Blocked toilet drains often occur when items such as baby/wet wipes, sanitary napkins and other large items are flushed which should really be disposed of in the rubbish bin. These items don’t break down like toilet paper does especially the “supposed” flushable wet wipes.
Blocked shower drains
Showers are well known for blockages caused by hair, soap, and other products including kids toys!
You obviously need to use products such as shampoo & soap but things you can do is make sure that hair is removed from the drain to allow other waste & water to drain away.
Blocked kitchen sink drains
Items such as food scraps, oil, grease & fats are the main reasons for blocked sink drains. None of these items should be let down the sink drain & should really be collected & disposed of in the rubbish or compost bin.
You can also use sink plugs that can catch food scraps instead of allowing them to go down the sink drain.
Blocked laundry drains
Regular causes of blocked laundry drains are hair and laundry detergent. Cleaning the filter in the washing machine at regular intervals is good practice to help reduce any blockages.
We have also noticed in recent times that people washing work clothes from the steelworks or mines that there is a build up of sediment in the bottom of your disconnector gully trap outside.
